Summer Waxing Tips

Lots of people get waxing services, especially during the summer months when the weather is hot and people tend to wear lighter clothes. Other people get waxing services as a way of making temporary tattoos last longer so they can show off their design for as long as possible. No matter your goals when it comes to waxing, there are plenty of things you can do to improve your experience, maximize your results and minimize the likelihood of complications. Keep reading for some of the best summer waxing tips to help you look and feel your best this season.

Here are a few of our best waxing tips, whether you’re focused on eliminating the appearance of unwanted hair or you’re concerned with making airbrush tattoos last longer:

  • Let your hair grow out first: The waxing process removes hair at the root by grabbing onto the hair above the surface of the skin. Unfortunately, this process won’t work unless there’s something above the surface of the skin to grab onto. One of the most common waxing mistakes people make is not giving their hair sufficient time to grow out before going in for a waxing appointment.
  • Exfoliate your skin: Another great way to improve results from waxing is to take time to exfoliate your skin before your waxing appointment. Exfoliation helps remove the top layer of skin, making it easier for waxing technicians to achieve a smooth, even wax. Skin that has been exfoliated prior to waxing typically has a much softer, smoother and more lustrous appearance.
  • Don’t drink coffee or alcohol before waxing: Many people don’t think twice about drinking a glass of wine or getting a glass of iced coffee prior to a waxing appointment, but caffeine and alcohol can cause problems during the waxing process. Caffeine and alcohol can both increase skin sensitivity and accelerate inflammation, leading to problems with waxing that can lead to less-than-ideal results. With that in mind, it’s best to avoid any caffeine and alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your waxing appointment.
  • Care for skin after waxing appointments: After you’ve had your waxing session, keep up with routine skin care and exfoliate every other day to keep your skin healthy and smooth in between waxing appointments. After you first start waxing, it’s normal for hair to grow back more quickly than it does after subsequent waxing appointments. While it might be tempting, don’t shave or trim your hair. Instead, go in for regular waxing appointments, and your hair growth will gradually become less rapid after waxing.
