Cleaning Up Your Brows at Home: Tips to Keep Your Brows in Shape

Most people’s hair grows faster than they can keep waxing it. If you’re struggling to keep your brows in great shape, you can clean them up at home in between eyebrow waxing appointments in Gilbert, AZ. Although it’s not quite as easy as letting an esthetician work their magic, it’s possible to look great and stay groomed between appointments. Here’s how to do it.

Keeping your brows in shape at home

To start, you’ll need tweezers, a facial touch-up razor, eyebrow brush, slanted eyebrow pencil and a pair of small scissors. Be sure to sterilize the tweezers, razor and scissors before you begin. This will help prevent infections and irritation.

First, brush your eyebrows upward and focus on the center and inner portions. Trim your brows so they’re the length you prefer—if you’re going for the thick, bushy look, you may not want to trim much, if at all.

Next, fill in your brows with the eyebrow pencil. This is so you can avoid plucking or shaving any sparse areas. Then brush your eyebrows back to their natural shape. Pluck any stray hairs that fall outside your defined brow line.

Finally, pull your brows upward so the skin is taut. Use the touch-up razor to clean up any extra hairs or “peach fuzz” still in the brow area.

That’s all you need to do to keep your brows looking good in between your professional eyebrow waxing appointments.

Professional eyebrow waxing

If you’d rather leave your brows to your local esthetician, you’re not alone. Many clients prefer to let a professional handle their eyebrow grooming, especially if they’ve had unsuccessful home touch-ups in the past.

Some people have never tried eyebrow waxing before, and are unsure of what to expect. It’s similar to other facial and body waxing, although you may find that it’s less painful than other areas. Like other waxes, it can be done with either cold wax strips or hot wax.

Your esthetician will consult with you beforehand to get an idea of what you want. It’s always helpful to bring in photos, but they may make recommendations based on your specific brow shape, hair texture and other factors. (For example, if you naturally have sparse brows, you won’t get trendy thick ones from a waxing appointment.)

During your appointment, the wax strips are applied to the areas with unwanted hair. After the wax cools, the strips are pulled off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This removes the hair at the root, which will prevent it from growing back quickly. It will also grow back thinner over time.

Once the waxing is finished, your esthetician will go over any trouble spots with scissors—and then you’re done!

Eyebrow waxes last several weeks, and the process of getting them gets less painful over time.
